Option #1: Schedule a workshop on addressing homelessness for Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at 1:00 p.m.
Report and Discussion
At the February 21, 2023 meeting, the Board directed staff to schedule a workshop on addressing homelessness, including a presentation from the Big Bend Continuum of Care (CoC) on its recent Point-in-Time Count, and also including other local homeless service partners. This item requests Board approval to schedule the workshop for Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at 1:00 p.m.
The County Commission calendar reflects that Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. is available to schedule the workshop. Participants of the workshop will include the CoC, Leon County Sheriff’s Office HOST Deputies, as well as local homeless services providers such as CESC-Kearney Center, Big Bend Homeless Coalition-HOPE Community, Capital City Youth Services, Refuge House, and Brehon Services. Pending the development of the workshop materials and the associated analysis, additional community partners and agencies may also be invited to attend.
In addition to the recent Point-in-Time Count, the Board will be provided a comprehensive overview of the Homeless Response System in the community; a presentation of the CoC’s five-year strategic plan to address homelessness; details on the County’s role, partnerships, and investment in addressing homelessness; an analysis on current challenges including unsheltered homelessness; and provide recommendations developed in coordination with the CoC, City of Tallahassee, and local homeless service partners to meet the current challenges.
