Court Specialist I/ Criminal Intake


SALARY: $12.69 - $19.04 Hourly
$26,404.60 - $39,606.90 Annually

DESCRIPTION:
THE STARTING SALARY WILL NOT EXCEED 10% OF THE MINIMUM OF THE SALARY RANGE   
This position is within the Criminal Intake Department and is primarily responsible for creating cases either by warrant, Information or notices to appear, assigning case numbers, setting court events, general docketing, imaging documents, processing work within electronic queues, and implementing court actions. All employees in this department work in a phone bank processing calls and traffic infraction payments.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Creating case by warrant, Information, Notice to Appear or Civil or Criminal Infraction;
  • Setting hearings on court calendars in JIS and Benchmark;
  • Daily docketing;
  • Processing documents within the e-filing queues
  • Issuing summons;
  • Issuing capias;
  • Updating case maintenance systems with court actions;
  • Entering disposition information into case maintenance system;
  • Customer assistance via phone bank, e-mail, live chat or front counter service;
  • Taking traffic infraction payments over the phone;
  • Clearing D6 suspension in CCIS;
  • Other duties as instructed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from a community college; graduation from high school and two years of office clerical experience will substitute for the two years of college.
 
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Must be able to read and interpret documents such as instructions and procedure manuals.
 
REASONING ABILITY:
Must be able to solve practical problems and to deal with a variety of work variables.
 
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
The ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
 
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
  • Must be able to interpret instructions either oral, written, diagram, or schedule in form. 
  • Must be able to interact effectively with other staff and the public.
  • Must be able to effectively present information and respond to questions from individuals or groups.
  • Must be able to interpret assignment needs and to communicate effectively with employees and management.
  • Must be able to work independently.

Licensure or Certification Requirements:
May require a driver's license if assigned to transport files among facilities or assigned to a remote office.
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, and ABILITIES:
  • Must be able to interpret and apply applicable laws, regulations and policies and court documents.
  • The applicant must have the ability to read and interpret documents, hand-written and typed; memorandum, calendars and procedure manuals
  • The ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Must be able to interact comfortably with all levels of staff in the organization.
  • The ability to resolve routine and non-routine problems in a professional manner
  • Must be able to work efficiently in a stressful, technological environment.
  • Must possess excellent typing, communication, grammar and proofreading skills.
  • Must possess intermediate or advanced knowledge of computer software and programs.
  • Must be able to use a personal computer, electronic mail, and Internet.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 
The employee must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time, perform repetitive actions and motion of one or both hands, lifting up to 65 pounds, bend/squat/kneel, hear ordinary conversation and office sounds, conduct verbal communication in person and on the phone, and prepare and read written communication by hand and on PC.
