Road Closures in Leon County

  • Capitola at Heartside Run. The entrance to the neighborhood at Heartside Run is impassable due to deep standing water. On Saturday, Leon County and other community partners performed welfare checks on the residents who are all safe and well.

 

Citizens Displaced by Severe Weather


Citizens displaced or affected by Thursday morning's severe weather should contact the Capital Area Chapter of the American Red Cross for additional disaster assistance. The American Red Cross can be contacted at 1-800-RED-CROS (1-800-733-2767).

Additionally, citizens can contact 2-1-1 Big Bend for additional social services and disaster assistance. Those in need can simply dial 2-1-1 or call 850.617.6333.

 

Damage Assessment Tool


A severe storm system has affected the Tallahassee-Leon County area. See below for more information.

Leon County has launched the Damage Assessment Tool to document damage within Leon County, resulting from the severe weather incident  on April 11, 2024. This information will be used to assist in collecting consolidated impact information and to engage human services partners. To report damage, click here.

...The Flood Warning continues for the following rivers in Florida...

Ochlockonee River near Havana (US 27) affecting Gadsden and Leon
Counties.

Ochlockonee River near Concord (CR 12) affecting Gadsden and Leon
Counties.

For the Ochlockonee River...including Concord (CR 12), Moderate
flooding is forecast.

For the Ochlockonee River...including Havana (US 27), Minor flooding
is forecast.

* WHAT...Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.

* WHERE...Ochlockonee River near Havana (US 27).

* WHEN...Until Friday morning.

* IMPACTS...At 28.0 feet, Water spreads out across the flood plain
on both banks of the river further inundating wooded areas. The
boat ramp at Iron Bridge Road (CR-153) in Gadsden County is
flooded.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 9:15 PM EDT Monday the stage was 28.3 feet.
- Recent Activity...The maximum river stage in the 24 hours
ending at 9:15 PM EDT Monday was 28.6 feet.
- Forecast...The river is expected to fall below flood stage
Thursday evening and continue falling to 24.7 feet Saturday
evening.
- Flood stage is 26.0 feet.
- Flood History...This crest compares to a previous crest of
28.3 feet on 03/07/1966.

Flood Warning issued April 15 at 1:48PM EDT until April 16 at 2:00PM EDT by NWS Tallahassee FL

* WHAT...Flooding caused by recent heavy rainfall, especially in the
Chaires, Capitola, and Baum communities of eastern Leon County.

* WHERE...Eastern Leon County in the Florida Big Bend.

* WHEN...Until 200 PM EDT Tuesday.

* IMPACTS...Several local roads remain closed and impassable due to
high flood waters in the Capitola, Chaires, and Baum communities.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 141 PM EDT, Leon County Emergency Management continues to
report flooding in the Captiola, Chaires, and Baum
communities of eastern Leon County. Flood waters remain, and
the flood waters have been slow to recede. Several roads in
the area remain closed and impassable.
- Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Tallahassee, Chaires, St. Marks Headwaters Greenway,
Capitola, Chaires Crossroads, Apalachee Regional Park and
Ralford Greenway.

* IMPACTS...At 38.5 feet, County highway 12 may become closed to
vehicular traffic.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 8:45 PM EDT Monday the stage was 38.5 feet.
- Recent Activity...The maximum river stage in the 24 hours
ending at 8:45 PM EDT Monday was 39.6 feet.
- Forecast...The river is expected to fall below flood stage
early Thursday morning and continue falling to 34.1 feet
Saturday evening.
- Flood stage is 36.0 feet.
- Flood History...This crest compares to a previous crest of
38.6 feet on 01/25/2010.

St. Marks River near Newport On Old Magnolia Rd affecting Wakulla
and Leon Counties.

For the St. Marks River...including Newport On Old Magnolia Rd...
Moderate flooding is forecast.

* WHAT...Moderate flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is
forecast.

* WHERE...St. Marks River near Newport On Old Magnolia Rd.

* WHEN...Until further notice.

* IMPACTS...At 10.0 feet, Flooding increases around homes on the
east side of Old Magnolia Road in Wakulla County. Access to some
of these homes may be restricted above this level.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 9:00 PM EDT Monday the stage was 9.8 feet.
- Recent Activity...The maximum river stage in the 24 hours
ending at 9:00 PM EDT Monday was 9.9 feet.
- Forecast...The river is expected to fall to 8.0 feet Saturday
evening.
- Flood stage is 8.0 feet.
- Flood History...This crest compares to a previous crest of
10.0 feet on 09/18/1957.
