Leon County Welcomes National Track and Field Qualifier

More Than 1,000 Youth Athletes and Coaches to Compete

Leon County will host more than 1,000 youth athletes and coaches from throughout Florida competing June 25 – 28 for the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Region 9 Track & Field National Qualifier at Florida State University’s Mike Long Track.

The meet is the first step in qualifying for the 2015 AAU Junior Olympic Games, which will be held August 1 – 8 at Norfolk State University. To advance to the AAU Junior Olympic Games, athletes must finish in the top six for running events, in the top five for field events or in the top four for relays or multi-events. The meet is open to youth of all ages with a valid AAU membership.

The Leon County Division of Tourism Development estimates the event will attract 3,000 out-of-town visitors, bring in more than 1,500 room nights and $1.2 million in direct-visitor spending. This is the fourth year the event has been hosted in Leon County. Admission is $5 per person, per day or $18 for all four days. Children four years and younger are admitted free.
