Leon County Administrator Vince Long Elected First President-Elect of the Florida Association of County Managers
Last Wednesday, Leon County Administrator Vincent S. Long was elected President-elect of the newly-formed Florida Association of County Managers (FACM), Inc. County managers from throughout the state attended the Florida Association of Counties (FAC) Legislative Conference in Tampa, Florida, to formally establish FACM as an affiliate of FAC.
"I am honored by the confidence of my peers, and I am eager to serve in this capacity as we write the first chapters of the Florida Association of County Managers,” said County Administrator Long. "I greatly appreciate the continued support of my County Commission, without whom opportunities like this would not be possible."
FACM was established as a professional association of chief executive officers to address common challenges and opportunities that impact county government. Additionally, the FACM serves as a mechanism for FAC to obtain policy guidance on statewide issues impacting counties.
“I believe the establishment of FACM will be a critical element to the success of FAC in our efforts to address county issues,” said FAC Executive Director Chris Holley. “Vince is the right person to provide the leadership and energy that will ignite this collective group of professional managers.”
A proven leader, dedicated public servant and accomplished professional public manager, Mr. Long was selected from among more than 60 county administrators and managers to serve in the leadership post. Since becoming Leon County Administrator in 2011, he has received national, state, and local recognition for his leadership, transparency in government, citizen participation and fiscal stewardship.
Mr. Long's commitment to the county management profession has been extensive. He is a member and past Board Director of the Florida City-County Management Association, Credentialed Manager of the International City/County Management Association, and serves on the faculty of FAC's County Commissioner Certification Program.
Mr. Long holds a Master of Public Administration from the Askew School of Public Administration at Florida State University and is a graduate of the Harvard University, JFK School of Government Institute for Senior Executives and Leadership Florida. Mr. Long served as an adjunct professor and is a regular lecturer in the Askew School of Public Administration and Policy at Florida State University.
As the President-elect and member of the Board of Directors, Mr. Long will have the responsibility of ensuring that the Association serves as a platform that encourages and fosters communication and collaboration among county administrators and managers in Florida. Mr. Long is slated to ascend to President of the Florida Association of County Managers next June during the FAC Annual Conference.
